仲間うちで（と言っても3人ほどだが）カーボン・ディープリムに同時進行的に関心が高まっていた。僕の場合は登坂力の一助となる超軽量カーボンはどうだろうと考えていて、同時にチューブラーに戻りたいという願望も絡めると選択できるホイールは限られて、カンパなどを見れば明らかだがポピュラーなモデルはクリンチャーのみで全滅だ。そんな時出てきたシマノのWH9000C24TUはわずか1100gと十分刺激的だったが、手が出る価格帯ではない。レースなどにも参加している仲間の一人は早々にFastForwardのF6Rを購入して、その走りの貢献度を実感できると話していたが、見た目そこまで派手なディープにしたくないし、横風の影響に自信のない自分としてはミディアムディープくらいかなと、あれこれ考え抜いた末にやはり超軽量の ZIPP202を選ぶことにした。とは言ってもこれもかなりの高額アイテムなので簡単にポチッとは行かない。

OFFのクーポンを使えば、円安のご時世ながら一応GOできる価格かなと発注することにした。しかもこのショップでは米ドルと豪ドルが同じ値段表示だったので、豪ドル決済すると数%割安という選択もできた。
写真は発注を済ませて2-3日後にドル高修正なのか価格見直しで$100くらい跳ね上がったサイトページのコピーで、その下には僕の発注明細を比較に貼り付けてある。ラッキーと言う他ない。リアの方は$599の売りをeBayで見つけ米国の友人に取り置きしてもらった。今度米国に行ったら引き取って持ち帰ろうという長期計画だ。BH3人衆の残る一人はF4Rを物色中。
Carbon deep
rims are the popular topic among my BH colleagues now. In the beginning, I wanted
to go back to tubulars like good, old days, and at the same time something very
light to benefit the climbing. The choices are actually limited, and popular
models for example in Campagnolo line-up were all clincher-only. One of my
friends bought FastForward F6R and reported his improved performance, but it was
cosmetically too deep in my taste and I worried a bit of side winds.
Consequently, my ultimate choice was Zipp 202 weighing only 1150g, but it was
of course not cheap. The third friend is looking at FF F4R.
The price of
202 front wheel offered at ProBikeKit, UK looked acceptable using special 15%
OFF coupon, so I went ahead. Also the given digits in AUS$ and US$ were
identical, therefore paying in AUS$ could save a few extra %. A few days later,
they revised the price by almost $100 perhaps to compensate the increasing US$
appreciation. I was just lucky!

in eBay and asked my colleague in US to keep it until I visit him next.
