Kakuuchi de Musica -

It was a long way visit to Saya Hall of Chiba City Museum, but the program pieces of the concert were mostly my favorites: The group of choir and ensemble is called Canto da Bere, led by Sumihito Uesugi, and only 14 singers cover solos as well as choir of Bach's church music. There are two counter-tenor singers in the alto section which characteristically indicates the umbrella of Mr. Uesugi. The hall was very large with high ceiling providing a classic atmosphere of the west. Its reverberation time was long and rich which sounded like a church in a way, but I was tempted to listen to the sound of such a small ensemble in a bit more compact and drier environment if possible, which is purely my personal preference.

The most impressive in this concert was probably, but by a great margin, the tall bass singer whose voice and singing were both just beautiful. The soloists who stood up one after another managed to display their own appeal, and thus the ensemble is a group of people who can sing with certain quality, which was undoubtedly enjoyable to listen to. The balance of the choir may well be more in balance in 4:3:3:3 instead of 4:3:4:3 considering the reach of voices of each part.

They seem to pick up great works that can be handled by a small unit, and it makes me feel very close to them, so I might consider joining the latter part of the concert next time which is a drinking party with them!

And the last but not the least, I should stress mentioning that the program notes were a great, instructive work.
