Meindl Vakuum -

I wrote about my Scarpa shoes a few months ago that hurt my fingers in downhills. I actually chose them as they looked nice in town walks as well as for light hikes, but it was a "softshell" in a single word. I consulted with my expert friend once again, and picked Meidl as the next candidate.
It is German but I did not expected much during my trip to Cologne as the local shops wouldn't usually carry variety of models and different sizes unlike the shops in Japan, but I found the model Vakuum in Düsseldorf. The size seemed acceptable and the price was about 210 Euros. This model looks classic with stiff Vibram soles, and is really a "hardshell".

Also recently, I won in a bid  the Arc'Teryx Silo 30 backpack in Everglade color that I had been long looking for. This is the essential element when I start back country skiing some day. Gee, the sporting is costly when you are a bit selective...
