The Choir: Boys don’t sing – クワイア・ボーイズ

5日と6日、英国の素晴らしい連続番組の再放送を観た。話は音楽的環境が皆無の（多分やや下層階級の）ランカスター校に若い音楽教師ギャレス・マローンが派遣され、合唱団を作り実践的なプログラムと熱意で問題児たちをまとめていくのだ。彼はロンドン交響楽団の合唱指揮者でもあり、これはBBCが持ちかけた企画という話も聞こえるので、やや仕組まれた部分も臭うが一応ドキュメンタリーとしての仕上がりだ。この作品はBAFTA賞を受賞している。素直に素晴らしいと思うのは、スティングやB.E.キング、さらにはヘンデルの「オンブラ・マイ・フ」まで歌う中で、生身の子供たちのさまざまな成長が見えること、そしてアルバート・ホールの檜舞台に立つ誇らしい姿に感動ひとしおの家族たち。


I saw a great program in series on TV last two days whether it is a real documentary or a partially arranged plot. It was from England, and regarding an effort of organizing a choir in Lancaster School with no music culture to end up singing at Royal Albert Hall.
Gareth Malone was such a brilliant professional to emotionally encourage the ordinary or sometimes difficult boys to sing in the team. They managed to sing Sting, B. E. King and even “Ombra mai fù”, and above all, seeing boys truly growth and their mothers being happy and proud at Royal Albert Hall were so heart-warming. This program has won BAFTA award.
