壁と卵 - A high wall and an egg

村上春樹がエルサレム賞の授賞式でガザ攻撃を批判したと日本のテレビ各局が報道した。報道はどうしていつも表層で耳目を集めようとするのだろう。
村上は極めてノンポリ的な生き方を通してきた作家で、彼が体制の一方に加担するとか、政治的理由で何かをボイコットするとは考え難い。
彼は個の尊厳については極めてセンシティブで、今回のスピーチも壁と卵に例えて、個を縛る制度の側には与しないと彼の基本スタンスを表明しただけだ。そのスタンスが明らかにできるなら、この受賞にも意味があるというのが、彼にとってのベストなバランス感覚だったのだと僕は思う。
海外の報道を読むと、彼は「私は小説家としてここに来ました。小説家というのは嘘つきなんですが、こう言っては失礼ですけども、政治家も外交官も嘘をつきますね。ただ小説家の違うところは嘘で非難されることはなくて、むしろ大きな嘘ほど賞賛されたりする。そしてその嘘は真実を明らかにするために使われているのです」というようなことも話したそうだ。
話題の数は少なくて濃い報道をしてくれるメディアはないものか。


Japanese TV media reported that Haruki Murakami criticized Israeli attacks of Gaza in the Jerusalem Prize ceremony. Why do our media always try to cheat the attention of people merely superficially?
Murakami, a non-political novelist through his entire life, will hardly adhere to one side of regimes or boycott something because of a political reason.
He is by nature very sensitive to the individual’s dignity. In his speech this time, he simply clarified his fundamental stance by the metaphor of “a hard, high wall and an egg” that he would never stand for a system that makes the life of individuals difficult. In my understanding, he felt a sense of best balance in concluding that there would be some meaning to receive this prize once his message was communicated.
