長野ツアー2：善光寺 – Nagano Bike Tour #2

2日目の走行距離は25km程度、ゆっくり走って長野に入れる。初日で一気に長野までも行けた距離なのだが、混雑が予想される善光寺詣でなど時間をゆったり確保しておきたいし、温泉で骨休めもしたかったというのが理由だ。

宿の主人に千曲川沿いの自転車道を川中島まで走った方が景色が良いと教えられたので、殺風景な国道は回避することにしたが、朝食はMOSバーカー更埴店が途中にあるのでややジグザグのルートを辿ることになった。それでも朝8時前に亀清旅館を出発して、10時前には楽々目的地のゲストハウス1166バックパッカーズに到着。自転車は道路の電柱にくくりつけ、荷物だけ預けてすぐ近くの善光寺に向かった。御開帳もあと数日限りという時期なので人出は多く、それでも行列の交通整理をしているおじさんによると今日はまだマシな方らしい。まずは回向柱に群がる人々の中に合流し、さらに本堂のご本尊を拝むには長い行列に30分以上並ぶ必要がある。信仰心の薄い者にとってはこんなに参拝客が押し寄せる境内に介在する賽銭･お札･御朱印の類を目にすると、宗教が不可避的に抱える拝金主義にややうんざりという気分になる。それでも願い事には敵わないということだ。善光寺が生み出した門前町は立派で、古い町並みの保存なども洗練された美観を感じることが出来るが、お寺自体からは芸術的に強い印象は受けなかった。

長野ツアー1：八ヶ岳から上山田温泉へ - Nagano Bike Tour #1

右膝の靱帯を痛めて1年が過ぎ、冬が終わったら本格始動の時期と思って、4月には草津から八ヶ岳高原･戸隠･白馬･宇奈月を走破する250kmプランを早々と立ててみた。ついでに安宿もネット予約で確保した。しかしこの春の4月、5月を現実にはなまくらなトレーニングに終止して、とても負荷の高いツアーをこなすだけの脚力が戻ったように思えない。5月末、結局このツアーは野辺山に別荘のある友人からの誘いを契機に、善光寺と戸隠神社巡りという目的に自転車を絡ませる短編版に落ち着いて、御開帳も終盤の時期に輪行開始となった。

初日は八ヶ岳高原からのダウンヒル基調で小海線沿いにR141を北へ向かい、上田経由で戸倉上山田温泉までの80km、4時間以内でまとめられると想定した。今回のツアーではiPhone 6PlusはガリレオのGPSマップでルート表示に専念させ、サイコン機能は引退したiPhone 4とWahoo Fitnessアプリでログをとる作戦で臨んだのだが、不慣れな操作で設定ミスを見過ごして肝心のログが全く取れていないのを後で発見した。ツアーで最長区間だったのにガックリ！

まず幹線国道ではなく農道を走ったのは八ヶ岳連峰の景色を楽しむためだが、下りの時は山を背にして走ることになる。実際に走ってみた小海ルートだが、自転車としては正直なところR141はあまり快適な印象ではなかった。道幅は狭めで端の方は路面の状態も気になるので追い越す車に神経を使う走りだ。むしろ望月宿に向け左折するR142とその先北上するR166の方が広くて走りやすい感じだった。しかし千曲川の北側に渡ってR18/141に入ると元の木阿弥となる。望月宿と上田城跡で休憩したが、あまり負荷のない区間だったので3時間半で目的地の宿に到着した。

亀清旅館は独り部屋素泊まり可能だったのでBooking.comで予約した。若旦那が米国人ということもあってか外国人の滞在客もちらほらだ。まずは風呂に入って汗を流す。露天もある。夕食は温泉街に繰り出して適当な店探しだが、大いに寂れた街でこれという選択が見当たらない。タイとか韓国のバー･スナックが散見される。結局、古波久という居酒屋に入って生ビールとおつまみ2品、そしておしぼりうどんと言う名物をいただいてみた。これは辛味大根の絞り汁につけて麺を食べるのだが、ここまで激辛とは思わなかった。

過激にフーガの技法 - The Art of Fugue, Radically

友人でもある沢口真生氏の録音による音楽制作は自主レーベルで専らUnamas Jazzとして発売されているのだが、Unamas Classicsとも言うべきクラシック作品録音の第2弾「フーガの技法」が近々リリースされる。
前回の「四季」のサラウンド･ミックスは従来のクラシック録音とは雰囲気が違って大いに刺激をもらった。今回も軽井沢の大賀ホールでの録音で、ハイレゾ9.1chミックスまで仕上げることになっているが、作業を先行した5chミックスを聴かせてもらった。「四季」より落ち着いた響きのように感じたが、同時にその中にある幽玄さがこの作品に似つかわしく思え、うまく市場導入できればセンセーショナルな作品となるんじゃないかと期待したくなった。

Recording engineer and a friend of mine, Mick Sawaguchi releases his productions mostly as "Unamas Jazz" under his own label, and here comes the second release of his classical recording, Bach's "the Art of Fugue". I should insist that he calls the series "Unamas Classics"!
"The debuting album "the Four Seasons" in surround mix had completely different sonority from usual classical recordings, which was such a stimulating experience for me. This time, he used Ohga Hall in Karuizawa again, and he challenges the maximum 9.1-channel mix in high-resolution digital. I had a chance to listen to the earlier 5-ch mixes, and thought this album might be sensational if properly presented.

藤田記念庭園和館 - Fujita Memorial Garden, Hirosaki

弘前公園の近くに藤田記念庭園があり、軽い食事が出来る洋館が人気のようだが何人もの客がテーブルが空くのを待っていた。庭園や洋館より僕はむしろ日本家屋の和館の方に興味を持った。昭和12年に建てられた本宅が戦後ここに移築されたとのこと。内装は欄間や襖などどれを取ってもシンプルながら洗練された趣味の良さがあり、心地よい。
In the neighborhood of Hirosaki Park is Fujita Memorial Garden, and the western style building seems popular where visitors can have light meal, but there was a long queue of waiting. I was actually more interested in the Japanese house (originally built in 1937 and moved here in 60's) the interior of which was plain but highly refined and I very much admired the taste.

弘前公園、再挑戦 - Cherry Blossoms in Hirosaki

弘前に行くなら桜のシーズンですが、一昨年の旅行ではほとんどの木が蕾の状態だったので今年はリベンジです。当初は4月29日出発の計画を組んでいたのが、開花情報がどんどん前倒しになるので慌てて予定を組み直し、どうにか列車やホテルの予約を26日出発でまとめることが出来ました。

If you plan visiting Hirosaki, the definite choice is the season of cherry blossoms in spring. A couple of years ago when we were there, the timing was too early and we only saw the buds on most trees. This year, we originally planned to leave on April 29, but the season was more rapidly shifting than expected, and we had to reschedule our trip departing on April 26 after a slight struggle of rearranging our train and hotel reservations.

新青森に12時半到着、その足で弘前公園に直行。ほぼどこも満開でタイミングとしては合格、それでも恐らく見頃のピークからは2-3日遅かったのではないかと思います。気温も春と言うより夏に近い暑さになっていましたし、実際に我々が帰った28日にはもう花見は終わりだなと感じました。そんな時は岩木山麓の桜が弘前公園より1週間くらい遅めとローカルガイドにあったので、そちらに向かうよう計画変更でしょうか。

We arrived at Shin-Aomori Station around 12:30 where we transferred to a local train directly heading for Hirosaki. The trees were in full bloom mostly to our satisfaction, but I would comment more precisely the timing was a day or two later than the ultimate. The days were hot like in the summer, and the watching was practically ending on the day we returned. In such a case, the guide book indicates that the cherry trees in the foot of Mt. Iwaki generally bloom a week or later than Hirosaki Park, and you can still follow them.

この日は日曜日。当然花見客は多くてどこでも行列が出来ますが、それでも都心の花見スポットの混雑を考えれば、ここは天国のよう。ゆったりとしたスペースがあり、場所取りも気の向くままくらいの雰囲気に見えます。そして大きなゴミ置きスペースも作られていて、持ち帰りする必要がない昔ながらのスタイルが素晴らしい！
昨今は海外からの観光客が多くなって、中国語･韓国語･英語があちこちで聞かれます。僕らが記念にシャッターを押してもらったのも中国系のカップルでした。

On Sunday in the season, you inevitably face with lots of visitors in queues everywhere, but it looked to me still quite relaxing considering how packed and tense the places were in Tokyo. It is almost a heaven to find a space to sit down as you wish in the garden and not being forced to bring back the garbage with you because they provide large trash boxes (just like good old days)!

We saw many foreign travelers this time and often heard such languages as Chinese, English and Korean. The young couple we asked to take our pictures were actually Taiwanese or Chinese.

桜が散り始めるとその花弁でお堀の水面が白く変わっていくのが楽しめます。散るのが早いのは外堀ですね。

The floating petals turn the water surface to white, which is one of attractions. The blossoms fall sooner in the outer bank of the Park.

植物園（有料）には様々な種類の桜が植えられていて、これを観賞するのも弘前公園の楽しみのひとつです。ここまで入る花見客はぐっと少なくなります。そしてもうひとつ見逃せないのが岩木山側に降りて長いプロムナード、「桜のトンネル」です。ここを散歩するととても贅沢な気分になれます。

The botanical garden (extra admission to pay) in the Park has variety of cherry trees planted and it is nice to cruise around them in much quieter environment. There is a long promenade called “Sakura Tunnel” along the west bank in the side of Mt. Iwaki, and it was such a gorgeous  walk under the blossoms.

次回はベストタイミングに日帰りという手もありだなと思いました。地球温暖化で開花時期がゴールデンウィークからずれると、弘前の観光業としてはやや辛いんじゃないかと心配。
Next time one-day round trip would be possible at the best timing, we thought. The season drifting earlier from the Golden Week holidays may be a tough situation for those in the tourist business here.

長興山の枝垂れ桜 - Weeping Cherry Trees of Choukousan

都心の花見スポットはどこも人だらけなのに比べると、小田原近辺はのんびりしたものだ。僕は二宮の吾妻山公園がお気に入りで既にブログでも紹介しているが、今年は小田原往復の自転車練習のついでに足を伸ばして、長興山の枝垂れを見ることにした。電車なら箱根登山鉄道の入生田駅から少し歩く。幸い敷地に自転車置き場のスペースが確保されているが、スタンドなしのロードレーサーは少々厄介だ。2台くらいは立てかける所が見つかる。目指す桜はそこからしばらく歩いて山の上で、高度差100mくらいはあるので頑張りが必要。僕はヒルクライム嫌いなので、チャリで行く気は毛頭ない。それでも2h走行の後の登りは少々つらい。
太い幹の古木がひとつ、その隣にはもう少し幹の細い枝垂れが並んで立っている。もうひとつさらに高い斜面に一本あって、これら3本がすべて。しばし枝振りを愛でるという楽しみ方かな。花見客はカメラ爺が多かった。

When it comes to sakura watching, you need to deal with the flood of people in Tokyo, but it is more relaxing in Odawara neighborhood. My favorite place is Azumayama Park in Ninomiya that I already posted in this blog. This year, I wanted to visit Choukousan as an extension of my bike riding to Odawara. It is accessible from Iriuda Station of Hakone Tozan (mountaineering) Railway otherwise. 
Luckily, they had a small space for bike parking though it was not ideal for road racers without stand.
The cherry trees in question are further away in the mountain, and you had to gain some 100m altitude: The reward indeed demands your effort.
There is an old tree with a big trunk, and another smaller weeping tree stands next to it. The third one was further up in the slope. Only three trees but you would enjoy their extended branches with full blossoms for a while. 

Swiss Design - スイスデザイン展

上野博物館のみちのく仏像展の後、オペラシティに回ってスイスデザイン展を見た。BALLY、TIMEX、VITRONIXなど、有名ブランドの商品と歴史を陳列したもので、総じて無菌的なスッキリデザインがスイスらしいと再確認できることは確かだ。スイスエアーやスイス鉄道は基本的にポスターの陳列。正直なところ、規模も大きくないし、商業展示の集まりみたいで、金を取って見せる美術展だろうかとの疑問がわく。最後にル・コルビュジエ関連の展示があるのが美術展としての救いなのか。写真撮影は禁止で、入口エリアの2作品のみOK、ルツェルン応用化学大学による型紙インスタレーションは光とモノトーンの美しい空間だった。

I went to Tokyo Opera City to see the Swissdesign Exhibition. It displayed the products and their history of leading Swiss brands such as Bally, Timex and Vitronix where you could confirm the clean-room-like modern design style that characterized "Swiss". Swissair and Swiss Rail basically showed their old posters. I somewhat doubted if this was appropriate as a paid exhibition considering its size and contents because it was more like a commercial display in a package, but the collection related to Le Corbusier in the end might allow it calling an art exhibition. No photos allowed except two displays in the entrance area, one of which was "Katagami Installation" by the Lucerne University of Application Science and Art, a beautiful space with light and mono tone.

本白根山 Snow Walk - Mt. Motoshirane

冬の白根山歩きは草津国際スキー場と隣接しているおかげで、山のエキスパートでなくても壮観な白銀のパノラマ風景を手軽に堪能できる貴重なコースだ。

まずは天狗山に行ってスノーシューをレンタルする。そこからシャトルバスでロープウェイ駅まで行き、ロープウェイに乗り継げは何事もなく標高2000mの山頂駅に至る。白根山は横手山方向の草津白根山と南に本白根山があり、どちらも2170m程度の山なので雪山登山と言っても獲得高度は200mにも満たないスノートレッキングということになる。

前回登った草津白根山は今回は立入禁止になっていて、代わりに本白根山はOKと言われた。風景はこちらの方が楽しめると思う。本白根山からは下方に万座も見えるし、静可山まで歩くルートもあるようで、調べればいろんな楽しみ方ができそうだ。

Thanks to Kusatsu International Ski Resort, Mt. Shirane is a precious treasure to enjoy a snowy panoramic view in the winter for those who are not expert climber.

First thing you do is to go to Tenguyama in the bottom of the ski resort to rent a pair of snow shoes. Then you pick a free-of-charge shuttle bus to the ropeway station where you take a lift to hoist yourself effortlessly to the altitude of 2000m. Actually, there are two Mt. Shiranes here. One is Kusatsu-Shirane in the direction of Mt. Yokote, and the other is Moto-Shirane in the south. Both are about 2170m high, thus it will be gaining only less than 200m altitude when it comes to climbing. A least exacting snow trekking so to speak!

When I visited here a few years ago, we climbed Kusatsu-Shirane, but this time the entry was prohibited and instead Moto-Shirane was available. I tend to think the views are more gorgeous from Moto-Shirane, and there seem to be several routes to try from here for example down to Shizukayama, or Manza is visible fairly close. To go further, we will need to examine more details and risks to enjoy.
