Kew Gardens - キュー・ガーデンズ

キュー・ガーデンズにはウェストミンスターからテムズ川をのんびりと遡航する船で行ってみた。川は茶色く濁って美しいとは言えないし、1時間半はちょっと長いのだが、周囲の景色が変わるのを見ているとあまり飽きることはなかった。ガーデン自体はやはり広大で、この国が世界に冠たる大英帝国だった時代のモニュメントのようで、標本的に植物を探す人にはよいのだろうが、楽しく鑑賞する植物園という感じはしなかった。とは言ってもロンドンを離れてちょっとくつろげる散歩ではあった。地下鉄で帰りは20-30分の道のり。


We took a Thames cruise from Westminster to Kew Gardens. The beautiful river was brown and least transparent and 90-minutes ride was a bit of excess, but the views of this city to change along the Thames were not generally boring.
Kew Gardens was vast reflecting the days of the Empire reigning the world, and it appeared to me more suited for those who come here to find plants amongst samples but not exactly a botanical garden to amuse watching them. Having said this, it was a comfortable tour away from London.
