面白かった発見はここで使われたチェンバロが朝のコンサートと同じ楽器で、やや小振りなフレミッシュと思われるもので、艶やかさはあまり出てこない地味な音色で、誰の手になるものかは判りませんでした。

It was the opening day of La Folle Journée au Japon today, and I went to Tokyo International Forum. The concerts I chose were Bach’s harpsichord pieces from 9:30 first in the morning, and handel’s arias from 4:30 in the afternoon. In particular, the latter concert by Maria Keohane (soprano) and Ricercar Consort was superb. Not only the gifted, truly beautiful voice that I completely got in love with last year, but Ms. Keohane’s singing ability was outstanding, and I thought the best of the day was “Da tempeste”, aria from “Julio Cesare”. It was followed by “Pensieri, voi mi tormentate” from “Agrippina” that revealed quite avant-garde aspect of Handel with unexpected progress of melody and harmony, and it was equally impressive. After these, she sang “Rejoice greatly” of “Messiah” rather like talking lightly than singing that I wished more emotional singing passages of her. The last was the famous “Lascia ch’io pianga” from “Rinaldo” that again had a light taste, and looking back after the heavy two pieces, these popular arias were almost like encores of the concert. Still, this event was exceptionally satisfying to me and I sincerely hope to see her more frequently. The Hall C was completely full.
One thing interesting I noticed was the harpsichord used in this concert was identical to that used in the morning session, probably a Flemish slightly small in size and the tones were not so colorful, and there was no hint of who made it just by looking from outside.
