The Shelves I Made - 自作の書棚

Down the stairs by the door to my listening room is a slightly recessed space of 20 centimeters deep, and I built bookshelves to fit in there. It took a while because I wanted to use different wood for each shelf: they are “hinoki” cypress, walnut, chestnut, cherry, “tamo” ash, and bubinga from bottom to top in case you would not tell from the picture. The thickest and the heaviest bubinga is the left-over of the large board I got for the base of my audio-rack. I will add another shelf when I find some other wood that is attractive enough.


階段を下りたリスニングルームのドア横の壁は20cmほど引っ込んでいて、この僅かなデッドスペースを有効利用しようと、手製の書棚を埋め込んだ。この計画にかなり時間がかかったのは、棚の一枚一枚に違う板材を使おうとしたからだ。写真を見ても判別できない方に、下から上に、檜・胡桃・クリ・桜・タモ・ブビンガとなっている。一番厚いブビンガは実はオーディオラックのベース用に入手した重い天板の切り落としだ。何か他に良い板が手に入ったら、もう一段追加するつもり。
